Like other government websites, VA.gov was all about the agency instead of its customer. Deep within, it buried tasks Veterans needed to complete in order to receive their benefits, and scattered those tasks among half a million web pages and hundreds of subdomains.

In 2018, I led a team of civic technologists, career civil servants within the agency, and contractors to transform it into the first user-focused website at the agency level in the Federal government.
